Leveraging Two-Stage Adaptive Robust Optimization for Power Flexibility Aggregation

Adaptive robust optimization (ARO) is a well-known technique to deal with the parameter uncertainty in problems. While ARO framework can actually be borrowed solve some special problems without uncertain parameters, such as power flexibility aggregation problem studied this paper. To effectively harness significant from massive distributed energy resources (DERs), performed for distribution system compute feasible region of exchanged at substation over time. Based on two-stage ARO, paper proposes novel method aggregate system-level multi-period flexibility, considering heterogeneous DER facilities, network operational constraints, and an unbalanced flow model. This applicable only active (or reactive) power, joint active-reactive domain. Accordingly, two models are developed: one focuses aggregating computes its optimal intervals multiple periods, other solves elliptical regions power. By leveraging technique, disaggregation feasibility obtained guaranteed optimality. Numerical simulations real-world feeder 126 multi-phase nodes demonstrate effectiveness proposed method.
